The Falcon RPM octocopter takes the amazing performance of the Falcon RPM quadcopter and steps it up another level. The addition of another four motors gives you the ability to pack a lot of power into something the same size as a standard 7" quadcopter. The Falcon RPM octocopter adds arm bracing at the front, back and sides to better manage the increased motor weight and thrust. This keeps vibrations to a minimum and provides you with an amazingly stable and solid platform for your HD action cameras. Yes I said cameras, plural, see below.
There are two versions available. One with 6mm arms and bracing and another with 8mm arms and bracing. The 8mm version is best suited to having larger motors installed and being used as a powerful short range platform to carry multiple GoPros at once. The 6mm version reduces the weight considerably which when combined with an appropriate motor size can provide for some surprisingly long flight times. This gives it the ability to make fairly long round trip flight distances, yes a long range octocopter!
The Falcon RPM octocopter continues the Falcon frame line's focus on capturing silky smooth cinematic video by keeping the main GoPro mount down between the props and well centered on the roll axis. The frame will fit either 7" or 7.5" props. The large top plate provides ample room to adjust the battery placement making it possible to keep the craft's CG well centered for multiple flight configurations.
To further expand on the many options and possibilities for your Falcon RPM octocopter build the FPV camera mount has been redesigned to accommodate vitually any 20 or 19mm FPV camera. Whether it's a 19mm analog camera with a single fastener on each side or the brand new 20mm DJI 03 camera with two fasteners on each side.
Gopro mount locations:
- standard front mount between props
- front of top plate (for 30 degree or more angle on a second front camera)
- rear facing (attaches to rear SMA mount, matched to front camera angle)
The underside mounts are still experimental - The additional GoPro plate accessory kit expands the mounting possibilities by adding two additional mounting points (both of these require a longer landing gear to protect the camera):
- front underside of frame (for less than 30 degrees angle on a second front camera)
- rear underside of frame (provides a rear facing mount with an adjustable angle below rear electronics mount)
